The Regional Intelligence Centre (RIC) is the working title of a new initiative with the aim of supporting economic policy and decision making within the East of England by providing high quality research, intelligence and analysis.
Established in February 2008, the RIC is a public-facing economic research unit for the region, aiming to provide reports and outputs suitable for a wide range of decision makers and a non-technical audience. By the end of 2008, the RIC will have seven FTE staff.
Core role
· Improve understanding of the economy amongst the regions decision makers
· Support policy making in the region through the provision of economic intelligence and analysis
· Becoming a hub or focus for the discussion of economic issues and research via events and reports
· Adding value to research and intelligence activities of local and regional partners – leading, collaborating and advising, where appropriate
· Developing the capacity and improving the practice of economic research in the region

· Economic focus – the thematic scope of the RES
· Evidence driven – offering objective and balanced view
· Quality and consistency of analysis and advice
· Aimed at non-experts in research and economics
· ONS presence co-located in RIC
· Observatory function will continue and be enhanced.
· Establish ‘self service’ resources for routine intelligence needs
